Under 19s

Legion logoYoung people aged 16-19 years old play in the Under 19s Kitted Team. Our team competes at this level as the “South-East Legion”.

This is the top tier at which the Phoenix compete in the BAFA National Leagues powered by Union Jack Classic. We are  competing in the Southern East Conference of Division Two in 2026. In 2025, the Legion were undefeated through the regular season and won the Southern Conference.

Although football at this level is not quite the full version of the game, the transition towards the full version continues. BAFA stipulate that Division 2 teams will play 7 on 7, while the Division 1 teams play 9 on 9. The game is still played on a shortened field with adjusted down and distance requirements.

The Legion originated out of a shared squad comprising players from the Phoenix, as well as the East Kent Mavericks and Hellingly Hound Dogs. It’s because of this shared history that the squad plays under the name ‘South-East Legion’. Working together at this level strengthens team-work and competition and helps the young people to form friendships and develop bonds that can open doors to future pathways at college level.

Harvey Hughes, February 2026We love to see our Phoenix players continue their football journey beyond our club to the highest possible levels. Some players continue to play at University, represent their country with the Great Britain national team, or get signed by the NFL Academy. You can read about some of our players’ stories in our Pathways page here.

As with the under 16’s, full equipment is required and the Phoenix provide helmets and shoulder pads for all players. Players are expected to purchase their own lower pads and pants. As with the younger age groups, they will also need a gum shield, suitable footwear and plenty of water. You can find out more about kit requirements here.

In combination with our management of the pads and helmets required, we do all we can to ensure players are prepared safely for kitted football and you can find out more about how we manage safety, including the maintenance of kit, on our website here.

We train for three hours on Sunday mornings (09:45 till 13:00).
