In order to join the Phoenix and play, we don’t expect you to have all the American Football equipment you might need.

For kitted squads, we will provide you with helmets and shoulder pads and shirts. You will, however, have to purchase lower pads and pants yourself, but we’ll help you find suitable and cost-effective options. For flag football, the game is played without pads and we will provide you with the flag belts required.

So when you first come along, it’s sufficient to just wear suitable athletic clothing and dress according to the weather. For example, wear skins under your clothes to keep warm during the winter months.

There are manufacturers who sell studded boots specifically for the sport of American Football. But initially we suggest that a pair of football or rugby boots is fine. We play on grass so studs are needed. We do not recommend the use of blades and please do not wear metal tipped studs.

You will also need your own gum shield for all activities.
