We want the Kent Phoenix AFC to be a safe place for everyone, and we take seriously our duty to care for all children and adults who take part in our activities. We’ve created a page on our website where we outline some of the ways in which we try to take our duty of care seriously both on and off the field.
The Management Board and the Operations Group are both committed to implementing the British American Football Association’s safeguarding policies and good practice guidance, as detailed on their website.
The Safeguarding Commitment Statement was agreed by the Management Board and is frequently reviewed. It was last reviewed in September 2025.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead & Welfare Officer is David Green.
Deputy Leads are Michelle Carr & Gayle Farrant.
The Kent Phoenix encourages all coaches and volunteer staff to attend a Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop at least every three years.
Safeguarding is a regular item on the agenda of all Board meetings and we are proactive in keeping our knowledge fresh by engaging with our local authority, Active Kent & Medway. We also follow the guidance from the British American Football Association as it is issued from time to time, and we also follow national guidance for all people working with children, young people or vulnerable adults and ensure they are safely recruited, have undergone appropriate training and are DBS checked.
Safeguarding information is displayed in the kitchen at the club as well as in the ‘group description’ on our WhatsApp announcements group for Parents, Players (16+) and staff. Our Safeguarding Policy is sent to all Club members annually in September.
