The Kent Phoenix were excited to host our annual “Fire Bowl” flag football tournament on Fathers Day, the 16th of June 2024, and even a sudden rainstorm couldn’t dampen everyone’s spirits as five other clubs from London and the South gathered in Maidstone for a festival of football and fun.
The Under 11 tournament featured seven teams. Click the link for all the results. We were pleased to field two teams at Cadet level with the Kent Phoenix Flames and Kent Phoenix Fire both competing. The Flames are a development team and therefore not eligible for the playoffs but all the teams were given the chance to show what they can do.
In the end, it was the London Fruit Bats who emerged victorious on their first visit to Maidstone for a Fire Bowl tournament. The Solent Red Storm were once again an impressive squad and played in their third bowl tournament of the season but couldn’t overcome the Fruit Bats.
The Under 14 tournament featured the six clubs all fielding one team each. Click the link for all the results. The London Fruit Bats made the final of this tournament as well having won through the Phoenix’s division. But they were beaten 24-12 by the Hertfordshire Cheetahs in the Fire Bowl championship final.
The whole day went extremely well and Coach Mart summed it up afterwards when he said:
Awesome day, and once again every single player in all our squads, along with all their supporters, should be proud today. The number of visiting coaches and parents who went out of their way to say how much they enjoyed coming to Fire Bowl is a huge compliment to every single member of the Phoenix family.
