Phoenix celebrate with end-of-season awards

End-of-season awards 2024Last Sunday, the entire Kent Phoenix organisation gathered to celebrate another fantastic season for all our age groups and codes. With the sun shining, we had fun together with a special Coaches Cup Flag Tournament followed by the Annual General Meeting and the end-of-season awards. The morning rounded off with a buffet with so much to celebrate across all the different teams.

While each of the groups gave out awards in such categories as offensive and defensive player of the year, there was also recognition of those who have improved the most, the best ‘rookies’ (i.e. those in their first year of playing) and a whole range of special awards – some fun and humorous and others more serious in nature. Then, alongside each squad’s involvement, some very special awards were given to people who have contributed to the club as a whole.

The Parsons Award, named in honour of club founder Lee Parsons, had two recipients this year in Julie Appleby and Lisa Parsons; both of whom do a tremendous amount behind the scenes to organise the club and our various teams.

The Outstanding Contribution award this year went to Marc Russell as he stepped down as our Club Treasurer. Marc has served for 10 years virtually since the club’s inception and we’re incredibly grateful to him for his help in managing the club finances.

The Volunteer of the Year award went to Martin Apps and Phoenix of the Year was awarded this year to Stanley Carr.

There were also special awards made to Adam Parsons and Casey Miles were both given Long Service awards. As founder members who have played for various Phoenix teams for over ten years, we wanted to recognise their loyalty but also their development from small children into young adults who not only play well for the club but have also represented their countries.
